Starting the race everyone on the squad knew that Covid was still totally prevalent and would have a hand in which countries our squad would be able to work in. Our original route was for Swaziland, Thailand, and Costa Rica. However, because of Covid we had to switch our route from Thailand to Columbia. And then two months later we found out that we had yet another country switch and would be headed to Antigua, Guatemala in January. Throughout all of this back and forth were frustrations, doubts, and a yearn for control that was not mine to hold. I was angry and not looking forward to Guatemala at all, it was the last place I ever imagined myself going. But within that was a reluctant yes to The Lord. He had to have something good in Guatemala for my squad if He was going to switch things up like this, right?

Now, after being in Guatemala at the Adventures in Missions base for 3 weeks I can see the fruit of all of those frustrations. God’s hand has been in all of the route changes, in choosing where we would be staying, our ministries, and the mentors and staff that get to speak into us here.

It’s hard to put into words, but the moment we stepped onto Guatemalan ground there was just an overwhelming sense of peace. This place felt like I was walking back into something familiar, it felt like home.

We are currently living at the Adventures in Missions base for the next two and a half months. The staff here is incredible, they walk so deeply with The Lord and have such a passion for not only discipline us racers, but also the people of Guatemala in the hopes of sending them out to the nations as well.

Ministry here looks like building a lot of relationships with the community here. While I’m Costa Rica, the longest my squad and I stayed in one place was maybe a month. And for most of our stay we were moving every two weeks to a new place. The cool thing about ministry here in Guate is that we are in the same place for the entirety of our stay, meaning we can actually build deep relationships and connections with the people we meet.

My team and I  visit different towns Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. There we meet up with kids from all across the town, from 2 years old to 13, and we teach the English! This ministry is huge. If a child knows English they have the opportunity to pursue higher paying jobs and careers that can help their entire family. We also play games and teach Bible stories as well! On Tuesdays we visit another town about an hour away to do house visits, where we visit families throughout the town door to door to get to know them and offer prayer!

Life here is pure and sweet, and there is a tangible excitement for what the Lord has already done here and what he will continue to do. And I am honored and in awe that I get to be apart of it in any way!

Sending you all the love!

  1. We can make our plans, but the Lord ultimately determines our steps. Thank you, Jesus, for bringing Gap I (and Delaney Sue) to Guatemala. You are full of SO MUCH light and joy. I’m thankful to know you!
